Lord Hill set to visit Somerton to back train station campaign
A CAMPAIGN is being launched tomorrow to re-establish a railway station in Somerton.
Lord Jonathan Hill, leader of the House of Lords, is visiting the town to back the campaign that is being launched by councillors.
South Somerset District Councillor David Norris and Somerset County Councillor Dean Ruddle are hoping to get the old railway line in the town established to form a circular Somerset route with access to Taunton and Bristol.

RAIN held off for Castle Cary’s Illuminated Carnival on Saturday evening, and the first appearance this season of both of the town’s carnival clubs: Cary Comedians and the Britannia CC.There was a new Cary carnival prize for entrants, the Nigel Strickland Cup, awarded for the Best Juvenile Lighting, On A Float Or Group of Masqueraders. TRAFFIC delays of 50 minutes have been reported stemming from Farrington Gurney.
The cause is the need for Avon Fire & Rescue to pump water from a roadside hydrant on the A37 Bristol Road to a barn fire which has been burning since 4pm yesterday.
Fire engines from Paulton, Radstock Yatton, Bath and Brislington have been backed by Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service crews.
The barn in question is 20m by 10m big and has 100 tonnes of hay. At the peak of the incident seven fire…
