Police apologised today after several motorists suffered burst tyres when a stinger device fell out of an officer’s car boot.

Stunned drivers were forced to swerve and hit the brakes after the spiked equipment dropped onto the busy road.

Police were dealing with a collision when the stinger – used to stop speeding motorists – fell out of a squad car boot and landed on the carriageway.

TWO people were taken to hospital after a crash involving a car and motorbike on the A38 at Alveston.
One fire crew from Temple fire station attended at 6.20pm last night.
No-one was trapped and firefighters assisted police and ambulance crews.
A South Western Ambulance spokesman said the motorcyclist, a woman aged 43, was taken to Frenchay Hospital with leg and back injuries.
