New West rail link to Heathrow planned as Somerset fights back
People from across the West will be able to take a train straight to Heathrow airport after a £500 million plan to construct a new line – but it won’t be open for another seven years.
The three-mile long tunnel will cost around £100,000 a yard to construct and will link the Great Western mainline just east of Slough with Terminal 5 with a tunnel under the M4 and M25.
If given the go-ahead, work on the tunnel could begin in two years’ time, and be finished by 2021. Until then,…
