The busiest stretch of the Kennet and Avon canal will be closed for the rest of this week after a Welsh stag party managed ‘the quite rare feat’ of capsizing their hired narrow boat at a lock in Bath.
The lock and some 250 yards of the canal at Widcombe will have to be completely drained to enable a heavy-lifting crane to pull the barge upright – and that will mean a major fish rescue operation will need to be undertaken first.
