Crashes plunge M5 into chaos this morning
There was widespread disruption on roads in the West this morning after two crashes closed the M5 in Somerset.
A man has died in one of the incidents on the motorway, which could now stay shut until lunchtime.
The motorway is shut in both directions between junction 22 (Burnham) and 23 (Bridgwater).
The first incident came at around 5.15am when a car overturned on the southbound carriageway.
A short time later a second collision, between a van and a lorry, happened in the same area.

Drink driving among elderly motorists on the rise
Drinking and driving among elderly motorists is on the rise, according to a survey.

Police forces reported that as many as 232 over-75s were caught driving over the legal limit last year, including a 93-year-old stopped in Devon.

The number of over-75s offending has increased by 20 per cent since 2010, according to car insurer Swiftcover.com.

The company’s figures followed data from 42 of the 52 UK police forces requested under the Freedom of Information Act.
