Rail decision on new Portishead station nears
A decision on the location of Portishead’s new railway station will be made in the new year. North Somerset Council says it expects to be in a position to announce the location for the new station in February.A consultation was held earlier this year on three potential sites for the new station.The consultation results come at the same time as a business case for a level crossing at Harbour Road is being drawn up to be submitted to the Office of the Rail Regulator. Christmas Travel: Delays for passengers at Stanstead and Gatwick
Rail delays have led to hold-ups for passengers heading for two major airports.
For Gatwick-bound travellers, there were problems for the third day running due to, initially, signalling problems at Burgess Hill in West Sussex and then staff shortages on the Thameslink and Great Northern routes.
Those travelling towards Stansted were delayed by a signal problem at the Essex airport’s rail station around lunchtime.
