Tolls to cross the two Severn bridges to rise again
Tolls on the Severn bridges are to rise to £6.40 in the new year.
Cars and caravans crossing from England to Wales will be charged 20p more than the current charge.
Small goods vehicles and small buses will pay £12.80 – a 40p rise – while heavy goods vehicles and buses will pay £19.20, up 60p.
A Severn River Crossing plc spokesman said the new tolls would come into force on January 1, 2014. – Read More.

A railway workers union claims that the 23-month contract extension handed to First Great Western has cost the Treasury £247 million in lost income.

The RMT claims to have unearthed figures revealing the true cost of the interim deal, which it described as a “shambles” which has “robbed” taxpayers.

Fixed speed cameras in the Bath area could be switched back on by the end of the year.
Avon and Somerset Chief Constable Nick Gargan is determined to reactivate the yellow boxes, which have stood idle since April 2011.
No date has been set and the actual numbers are dependent on co-operation with local councils.
If the chief constable gets his way, just two are likely to be switched on in Bath and North East Somerset.
These are on the A4 at Saltford and on the A37 at Pensford.

Warning of abnormal load on B&NES roads this weekend
Police are giving people advance warning of a series of abnormal loads which will be travelling through Bath and north east Somerset this weekend.
The loads are almost 100m long and 5m wide, weigh around 640 tonnes and will travel at around 10mph – and more slowly on uphill stretches.
Allelys Heavy Haulage of Studley are transporting transformers from Didcot power station to Avonmouth Docks.
As the load is too heavy for the M4 near junction 19, it will use A roads on part of its journey…
