Hotel-Restaurant-Bar,and historically known as The Angel, the inn dates back to well before the Protestant Reformation and as far back as the Domesday Book, although some parts, such as The Naval Room and library were added in the 18th Century. When the pub was acquired by Simon Waterfield and his team, this once great inn was a dilapidated and dingy pub.

Unsurprisingly there was a lot of work to be done to update it and the whole process took two years. Architect Piers Taylor has preserved the magnificent ancient walls and beams and put them on show. Elsewhere, renaissance angels by Benevento di Giovanni, Leonardo da Vinci and Fra Angelico appear in wallpaper panels appear across the building.

Archangel opened its doors on the 1st of July 2010 and we’ve been quickly gathering rave reviews for the building, and just as importantly the quality of our food, the comfort of our bedrooms and friendliness and expertise of our staff.
