One of the steepest roads in the country will close next month to allow road works to take place.

The A39 at Porlock Hill in Somerset is reportedly the steepest A road in England.

It means an engineering scheme to resurface it will be a challenge for Somerset County Council.

The road has a gradient of 1 in 4 (25 per cent) in places.
