Good morning. Much of the West Country remains under water this morning, as rain continues to fall on saturated ground, offering little hope of let-up.

River levels, especially in the Severn, have not yet reached their peak, as Tristan Cork explains in this morning’s paper.

Roads closed by flooding in West Country
Roads across the West Country remain closed this morning due to flooding.

In Somerset, the A361 at Burrowbridge and the A372 at Othery are shut, with diversions in place. Other routes, including the B3165 at Long Sutton and New Road, West Lyng, are also closed. A burst water main is also causing problems on the B3114 at Chew Stoke.

Gloucestershire, where dramatic pictures show the full extent of the Severn in flood, is badly affected, with the A417 at Maisemore still closed, as is the B4213…

Passenger flight in emergency landing
A passenger flight from Geneva to Cardiff made an emergency landing in Paris after experiencing “a minor technical fault”. Firefighters rushed to the Bombardier DHC-8-400 aircraft on the runway at Paris Orly Airport and dowsed it in water. All 68 passengers on Exeter-based airline Flybe’s BE1832 flight were unhurt. BBC Wales said passengers were told a “hydraulic” problem was the reason for landing. Flybe sent another plane and apologised to the passengers.

M4 closed in Wiltshire after police car involved in crash
The M4 was closed in Wiltshire today, after a police car was involved in a crash.
The crash happened on the westbound carriageway of the M4, between junction 16 for Swindon and junction 17 for Chippenham, at about 10.45am, Wiltshire Police said.
The accident involved the patrol car, which was stationary on the hard shoulder, and an Audi A3. A police officer was taken to hospital with an injured shoulder and is expected to be released later today.
