Just as the West Country picked itself up and brushed off the debris from a night of storms, the Christmas getaway begins, with 13 million people expected to spend £2 billion on travel to visit friends and family.
Families are expected to begin their travels tonight and tomorrow, with around four million hitting airports and ferry terminals as they dash overseas. Travel organisation Abta said the busiest days for overseas escapes are likely to be Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
