Glastonbury Festival in the 1970s – Where it all began
It was decade of pet rocks, mood rings, lava lamps, with glam rock and disco battling it out for chart supremacy.

The first festival was held on September 19 and 20, 1970 and was inspired by a blues festival at the Bath and west Showground near Shepton Mallet.

Around 1,500 people turned up with Marc Bolan and Tyrannosaurus Rex stepping in to play for The Kinks – who didn’t show up.

The festival was back in ’71, renamed the Glastonbury Fair and moved to coincide with the Summer…
